I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to explore Wild and Wonderful West Virginia, last weekend I took my 7year old to Lost River State Park and we hiked the White Oak Trail. We first checked in at the Store and were given a map of the various trails in the Park. After a short drive we parked at the Riding Stables and took the path directly across from the Stables. The first part of the incline was quite steep but then the path evened out and took us around bends, over fallen trees, and along narrow paths. It was quite challenging but a lot of fun. The weather was perfect, and my daughter and I had the most amazing day. I can’t wait to go all the way up to Cranny Crow. www.wvstateparks.com
Just 25min drive from the Campground, Seneca Rocks is a very accessible hike to a beautiful platform overlook. We adventured up the trail with the ladies from our Girls Glamping Weekend and had a great time. At times is feels tough as it can be steep in areas but it is well worth it for the view across the valley is breathtaking! If taking your kids I would recommend grabbing some snacks and a drink, having short breaks on the way to the top definitely keeps them engaged in the task. The Discovery Centre which is situated at the bottom is really fun. Lots of information on wildlife can be found here. There is also The Sites Homestead, also known as the Wayside Inn or the Sites Inn, it is located near the entrance to the trail in a second car parking lot. The log house was built by Jacob Sites circa 1839 and has lots of artifacts dating back to when the house was in use.
